About Our Church in Anchorage
We are a church founded upon the Word of God. We preach, teach and believe the Bible to be God’s written Word to mankind. This page contains information that go into detail as to who we are, what we are and why we believe what we believe.
Who We Are
Our Roots
Victory Christian Center is affiliated with Christian Fellowship Ministries, which was founded by Wayman Mitchell, senior pastor of The Potter’s House Church of Prescott, Arizona, in 1973 during the Jesus People movement. The fellowship now includes churches in more than 125 nations of the world.
Our Beginnings
Robert Overson and his wife Connie were sent from the Prescott church to Anchorage to take over a struggling church in the state of Alaska. The Overson’s, saved during the Jesus People Movement, saw a great opportunity to impact their generation for Christ. As they simply began to preach, serve and evangelize, God honored their labors by bringing in people from all walks of life and began to build the church. Since its humble beginnings, the Lord has graced Victory Christian Center with a powerful touch of His Holy Spirit.
Our Vision
One unique facet of Christian Fellowship Ministry churches is the discipleship and training of couples within the local congregations for the purpose of planting churches. True to the same vision that launched the Overson’s into Anchorage, Victory Christian Center launched its first baby church into Fairbanks, Alaska in the late eighties. Since that first church launched, eleven additional pioneer churches have been planted out of Anchorage into such places as Washington, Ohio, Illinois, and Montana. Recently, we have grown our church plants with a grandbaby church in Marysville, WA. We are also active in the international mission field. Our congregation comes together and is helping support missionary churches in Africa, India, and China. Our vision is not to build a bigger church, but to fill the earth with churches.
Our Ministries
After many years of ministry, the local congregation of nearly 200 continues to minister to the people of Anchorage and regions beyond. These ministries include the diligent preaching of Pastor Overson and other pastors, special church events, revival services with gifted evangelists, and full-length dramas. Ministry is offered for children and for the youth. Beyond the doors of the church the gospel is presented throughout the city in our Bible studies, park outreaches, dramas, parade participation, and one-on-one evangelism. Victory Christian Center is dedicated to winning souls as we strive to be faithful to the heavenly vision.
